Walt Disney World removing its Bill Cosby statue – The Orange County Register
According to reports, the company has decided to take down a bronze statue of the comedian from its Hollywood Studios theme part in orlando after curt documents showed he admitted to procuring drugs for women he wanted to sleep with.
The Cosby statue, which sits at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza, was meant to be a tribute to the Golden Age of television, but is now being called into question after dozens of allegations surfaced.
The court papers remained private until US District Judge Eduardo Robreno agreed to open up the records Monday.
The Cosby Show star is in the midst of an ongoing legal battle after more than 30 women came forward with decades-old claims that he drugged and sexually assaulted them.
“In light of recent circumstances it is prudent that the bust of actor Bill Cosby be removed”, the petition (reportedly started by a niece of one of Cosby’s alleged victims) read. “To not be able to walk through Disney without having that hard encounter, it makes me sad”, Gavrilova said.
WJXT’s sister station in Orlando, WKMG, contacted Disney to ask about the statue but has not yet heard from park officials.
