Wang nabs academic honor from WGCA
Recent Naval Academy graduate Renata Bucher has been named to the 2016 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar list. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and the student-athlete must be of high moral character and in good standing with the university. Fellow junior Wilcoxson had a 3.64 in exercise science, while the sophomore Champion boasts a 3.87 in criminal justice.
The three Lady Bisons were among 828 women’s collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. She was voted the team’s most valuable player.
Fanny Johansson holds the team’s top grade point average. Polo, a rising senior, on the 2015-16 squad, posted a 75.66 average and was tabbed SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.
A unanimous All-American Athletic Conference selection, Pettersson finished second on the team with a 74.67 stroke average, which ranks ninth on the all-time single-season charts.
Johansson was tabbed a WGCA All-American Scholar for the first time in her career. Georgetown posted top-10 finishes in nine of 10 tournaments played and were among the top-five teams in five of the last seven events. She started 10 events and played once as individual competitor while collecting three top-25 finishes. Burrell just completed the most successful season of her career, posting a career-low 82.30 scoring average with two top-five finishes and a career-best.
All three Blue Devils were also named to the All-ACC Academic team earlier this summer. The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches.
