Warner Bros is Working on a ‘Scooby-Doo’ Animated Feature Film
This news comes nearly a year after the production company unveiled a live action Scooby-Doo reboot, so we’re not sure if this cartoon feature-length film will be replacing the other one.
The Wrap reports Tony Cervone will be directing the animated movie, and that’s someone Scooby-Doo fans should be well-acquainted with because he worked on the 2010 incarnation of the show, Scooby-Doo!
Otherwise, unfortunately for Scooby-Doo fans, we’ll be waiting awhile to see this movie, because it won’t hit theaters until September 21st, 2018.
The film reunites Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle (“American Hustle”), who previously produced the Studio’s hugely successful live-action features “Scooby-Doo” and “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed“. Pictures presentation under the Warner Animation Group banner, which rose to prominence last year with The Lego Movie.
Warner Bros.is getting the gang back together.
Dan Povenmire, the co-creator of the cartoon Phineas and Ferb, is also involved in a creative capacity and will exec produce. As anticipation grows throughout production, the movie’s mid-September release date should start the fall season with a burst of fun.
The announcement was made earlier today in a joint statement from Warner Bros. executives Greg Silverman, Dan Fellman, Sue Kroll and Vernoika Kwan Vandenberg.
Warner Animation is hoping the new Scooby movie will be the first in a series of features based on Hanna-Barbera properties from the 1960s and ’70s.
Added Kroll, “It’s wonderful to be working with this talented and inspired team of filmmakers”. Allison Abbate, who has credits on Fantastic Mr. Fox, Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie, is also producing. “We expect this new take on the franchise to generate even more fans around the world”, said Kwan Vanderberg.
