Warner Bros. Working On Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Movie
DC superheroes Booster Gold and Blue Beetle will team up for a movie, says The Tracking Board. He later followed up with an article saying that Zak Penn of X2: X-Men United and Marvel’s The Avengers fame is being eyed to write. A new listing has shown up on The Tracking Board that indicates that after attempts at various TV series iterations have been made that a feature film is now in development at the studio.
It also appears that Arrow and The Flash Director Greg Berlanti has been tapped for the same role, as both Director and Producer. This goes against DC’s longstanding “no jokes” rule, which keeps the other films grounded in a world of seriousness and dark themes.
The original Blue Beetle dates back to the 1930s; the version that’s best known today, a brilliant inventor named Ted Kord, was created in the 1960s by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko.
Warner Bros.is reportedly working on another film for the DC Cinematic Universe.
The film is described as a “superhero buddy-cop movie” and will take a comedic approach in focusing on the two second-tier (but popular) DC characters. But a new rumor suggests it’ll eventually get a big dash of fun and color, thanks to the misfit pairing of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.
With his trademark superhero ego and future humility, Booster Gold is well-loved among DC Comics fans. But Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are like a niche on a niche on a niche.
In fact, comic book nerds might remember that a Blue Beetle series was once slated to replace Smallville, but never came to fruition. Ted doesn’t have any powers, so he relies on his wits, his athletic skills, and his high-tech equipment to defeat evil. He’s only directed two features, with his last one being 2010’s Life As We Know It and his most recent writing credits are for Green Lantern and Wrath of the Titans.
