Warning over ‘dangerous’ heat expected Sunday; hail and tornadoes possible
The threat into Saturday evening will be in the vicinity of central Illinois and eastern North Dakota.
Per SPC definition: Moderate risk is used for an area where widespread severe weather with several tornadoes and/or numerous severe thunderstorms is likely, some of which should be intense.
While the thunderstorms rumble over the Great Lakes, the mercury will begin to rise over the Plains.
Latest indications suggest temperatures on Monday may be a couple degrees lower than today in many regions.
The Star Tribune reports (http://strib.mn/1GePMgB ) the advisory is in effect from 1 to 7 p.m., when temperatures will range from 90 to 95 degrees during the day.
The remnant of Tropical Storm Ela will move west across the islands over the weekend, bringing light winds and dew points in the mid 70s in combination with typically hot July temperatures.
Temperatures are expected to dip a bit during the workweek.
Heat illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat fainting, heat edema (swelling of hands, feet and ankles), heat rash and heat cramps (muscle cramps).
