Warren: Ricky Town requests transfer from USC
Freshman quarterback Ricky Town has been granted a release from his scholarship at USC and will transfer to another school, Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian announced Sunday.
The top quarterback from USC’s highly-touted 2015 recruiting class has requested a transfer after spending only a few months on campus.
Here are three things to know about Ricky Town’s transfer.
Town originally committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide before decommitting on January 25, 2014 and committing to USC. He was listed as the Trojans No. 3 quarterback in fall camp. He was expected to be a future star for the Trojans, so Sunday’s news surely comes as a shock for the team and its supporters, especially after he participated in spring practices and with the regular season now just weeks away. As mentioned above, Town was the No. 3 signal caller on the depth chart behind Kessler and redshirt sophomore Max Browne.
USC’s 2015 class also included four-star quarterback Sam Darnold. Town, wherever he winds up, will have to sit out a season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules. He was a five-star recruit and one of the best recruits in the nation as a junior, but finished as the nation’s No. 79 overall recruit, No. 6 pro-style quarterback, and No. 14 player in the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
