Warriors 116, Knicks 95
With a Golden State Warriors 127-107 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, the Stephen Curry-led team have equaled the record for best start through 46 matchups in a National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season at 42-4, according to SportsCenter.
Green finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.
“We have great basketball minds out there”, Thompson said. Stephen Curry didn’t help matters with a 1-of-6 start from the field, and most of those were cringe-worthy ducks with no hope of going in.
“(Green) doesn’t really have a position, that is how unique his game is”, Warriors guard Klay Thompson said.
Green filled the boxscore with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the visiting Golden State Warriors, who trounced the New York Knicks 116-95. Smith then stripped Curry and finished with a dunk to tie it. After Barnes’ shot, Philadelphia was unable to get a final shot off after inbounding the ball at halfcourt.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Festus Ezeli might return Sunday following a two-game absence due to an injured left knee.
Among the notable defensive developments that benefited the Sixers in Saturday’s second half, they contained Golden State, the NBA’s most prolific club, to their lowest output – 35 points – of any half this season.
Green, who leads the league in triple-doubles, matched Hall of Famer Tom Gola’s total from the 1959-60 season.
“He was sacked up after the game”, said Barnes, who scored 11 points. Against the Raptors the Knicks were down three starters, Jose Calderon, Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, and Anthony and Porzingis were able to return against the Suns. Thompson capped it off with eight straight points. It’s called playing against awful (although not too much lately) teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, needing a super clutch 3-pointer from Harrison Barnes to lift them to another victory. Golden State notched at least 30 assists for the seventh consecutive game, distributing 31. He missed five of his first six jump shots and turned the ball over twice in the first nine minutes.
Kerr, a five-time champion and the NBA’s most accurate three-point shooter of all-time, accumulated extensive broadcasting and front office experience following his playing career, but never once had he managed a sideline.
“I’m a grown man”, Green said. Golden State’s players, especially Curry, were cheered loudly during pregame introductions while the 76ers were met with only tepid applause. The Sixers got out-rebounded by 17 points. There are generally a couple hundred fans watching warmups, but there were thousands “oohing” and “aahing” with cellphones recording every moment as Curry swished one 3-pointer after another. Offensively, they average 115.0 points per game, which is first in the league.
The sellout crowd, which seemed pro-Golden State early, swung back in a big way as the 7-41 Sixers mounted an impressive comeback.
