Warriors 20-0; Curry gets 40
On the night his old man was honored, Stephen Curry dropped 40 points including 8 triples to lead Golden State Warriors to a 116-99 trashing of the Charlotte Hornets to remain unblemished at 20-0.
Curry had 28 points in the third quarter and finished with 40 for the game despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Curry ended his one-man show by pulling up for a 30-foot 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 21-point lead and got the sellout crowd at the Time Warner Cable Arena rocking. Klay Thompson scored 15 of his 21 in the first quarter.
It’s hard to get too much attention for a six-game winning streak, the NBA’s second best when the Warriors still have their 24-game win streak (they won their final four regular-season games last season) alive and kicking. “What can I tell the MVP of the league?”
Stephen Curry is building a strong precedent for the Golden State Warriors this year. The point guard is 52.4 percent from the field, 94.3 percent from the free throw line and 45.9 percent from three point range.
Despite missing the inside presence of centre Al Jefferson – out at least two weeks with a strained left calf – and 0-for-8 shooting from Kemba Walker in the first half, the Hornets fought back to cut the lead to 60-51 at the break.
“That’s a hell of a good pick and I think that his upside is going to be kind of whatever he wants it to be”, Brown said.
That season Curry set the NCAA single-season record with 162 three-pointers, was a finalist for the Wooden Award and named to the All-America Second Team by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, ESPN and Sporting News. I was able to make some good shots. Eight teams have finished a season with a margin of victory of 10 points or more, and now the Warriors are beating opponents by more than 15 points a night.
“People ask me all the time, ‘Do you talk about basketball to your son?”
Hornets coach Steve Clifford tipped his hat to the Warriors. Everybody has to be willing to hit somebody and hold their man out and go get the ball.
The Warriors will eventually lose a game – it will probably even come on this road trip at some point – and then Walton will have another new coaching challenge to address, as in: How does he actually handle a loss?
