Warriors close in on flawless 7-0 road trip
The Golden State Warriors were able to extend their unbeaten season on Friday night in their 124-119 double-overtime victory against the Boston Celtics (13-10), improving to 24-0 on the season.
Curry shot 9-of-27 on Friday but still boosted his road scoring average to 34.4 points.ABOUT THE BUCKS (9-15): Milwaukee has found many ways to lose during a 5-12 swoon, and on Friday it was a lack of support from the bench, which provided 10 total points on 4-of-19 shooting.
Curry’s performance was clutch if not efficient, as he made two critical free throws with just 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime that gave the Warriors a 122-119 lead.
But it didn’t last long, as Curry struggled through his worst-shooting night of the season.
“We will definitely cherish this, because it doesn’t happen often”, Warriors center Andrew Bogut said afterward. Probably not. But the Bucks, who stand between the Warriors and a 25-0 start, probably are just fine if the Warriors don’t have any extra motivation heading into Saturday night’s game.
The Warriors end a seven-game trip Saturday at Milwaukee.
It is that on-to-the-next-one mentality that has served the Celtics well this season, allowing them to not get bogged down when things are good or bad. A feat the Warriors nearly accomplished in 2013-2014 before dropping their final game of the trip in Brooklyn on the second night of a back-to-back.
“I thought we played really hard”, said Boston coach Brad Stevens.
In each instance, there was a sense of inevitability that Golden State somehow would go on one of its breakneck-speed runs to put away another opponent.
Stephen Curry knows the number well.
The Celtics actually got another last-gasp chance with 0.7 seconds to go, but Kelly Olynyk’s desperation fadeaway missed everything (all while Avery Bradley might have had a lob opportunity at the rim while curling off Olynyk’s screen).
“They’re the champs. They did what they’re supposed to do”, said Celtics swingman Evan Turner.
Fans crowded around the Golden State end of the court during warmups to watch the defending National Basketball Association champions and their star.
MILWAUKEE (AP) – The streak is over for the Golden State Warriors.
Draymond Green was asked what he learnt about his team after they had to dig deep to beat Boston.
“We were short-handed, but we fought”, said Green, who added eight steals and five blocks. “Curry, you know, he still made it work”. He later scored to force a second overtime.
Although Curry dropped 17 points to lead all first-half scorers, the Warriors shot 37.5 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from three over the first 24 minutes.
In other games, Kemba Walker had 33 points and six assists as the Charlotte Hornets trounced the Memphis Grizzlies 123-99, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Utah Jazz 94-90, the Denver Nuggets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 111-108 in overtime, the San Antonio Spurs overcame the Los Angeles Lakers 109-87 and the Portland Trail Blazers were 106-96 winners over the Phoenix Suns.
His status for the upcoming game against the Boston Celtics this Friday is still up in the air as he to reporters that he wants to play but the final decision might not be his to make, courtesy of NESN.
