Warriors down Lakers 109-88
The Los Angeles Lakers welcome the Golden State Warriors to town at 10:30PM ET.
Houston snapped a four-game skid by overrunning Utah and winning 93-91 after having been 15 points down midway through the third quarter when James Harden lit up en route to 30 points.
But after playing a significant part in Golden State’s first championship win in 40 years and subsequently helping the team achieve a 33-2 regular season record, there really isn’t a reason to blame Thompson for finding the confidence he lacked in the beginning of the season as he did his best to work through a lingering back injury. He became just the second Warrior with three consecutive triple-doubles, and it’s been awhile since the last time – Tom Gola did it for the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959-60.
Klay Thompson was on fire early scoring 22 points in the opening quarter and set up the eventual blowout of the Los Angeles Lakers, 109-88 on Tuesday (Wednesday in Australia).
Only in our lives, it’s the corner of the coffee table that keeps finding our sore shins, not the feet of seven-foot centers like Roy Hibbert.
The league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, Curry, missed three games with a lower leg injury but has played extended minutes in the last two games and seems to be back to his old self.
“It’s just frustrating and annoying and any other adjective you want to throw in there”, Curry said Tuesday night.
As Steph deals with the pain, it’s a relief to know that the damage won’t be long-term. They’re on pace to shatter a number of records, and even with the ever-dangerous San Antonio Spurs lurking in the background, Golden State has been overwhelmingly dominant despite a few nagging injuries to key rotational players.
The Warriors used an explosive third quarter to pull away from the Hornets with the help of Klay Thompson who nailed two clutch baskets to spark an 18-4 surge that put them in command for good.
“I’m not going to sit out four weeks, so I have to figure out how to protect it when I’m out there on the floor”, he said.
Golden State Warriors Interim coach Luke Walton cited Stephen Curry’s determination to win the game.
“With Harrison, I thought there’d be more rust than there was tonight”, said Walton. Eventually, Thompson would finish with a game-high 36 points on the night. After defeating the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and blowing out the Phoenix Suns the purple and gold are riding high, but taking on the 32-2 Warriors is going to be a tall order.
Walton also compared Curry to Kobe Bryant.
Bryant’s shoulder has improved in recent days, but he still chose to sit for the third time in 2016. Stephen Curry added 17 points and six assists, while Draymond Green filled the stat sheet with nine points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
