Warriors equal 2nd-longest win streak in National Basketball Association history
There was some talk about the Indiana Pacers possibly challenging the Golden State Warriors’ 22-game winning streak Tuesday night, but Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry quickly put an end to all of that nonsense in a 131-123 road win.
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson (11) passes over Indiana Pacers guard George Hill (3) during the first half of an NBA basketball game in Indianapolis, Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015. But the Pacers chipped away at the lead, and the starters returned to the court to close out the game.
Thompson also suffered an ankle sprain in the final minute of play against in, and while he was at practice on Thursday he’s listed as a game-time decision against the Celtics.
The Warriors have now won 27 consecutive regular-season games, tying the 2012/3 Miami Heat team for the NBA’s second-longest winning streak.
Golden State has also been cashing at the betting window, covering in 16 of its 23 games this season. Through three periods, Thompson and Curry had 62 combined points, Curry finished with 29 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. The Warriors finished 52 of 95 (54.7 percent), including 16 of 36 from 3-point range.
Golden State has won 13 straight road games this season, breaking a tie with the 1969-70 Knicks for the league’s best road start. The team’s most important player, Draymond Green, had possibly his worst game of the season, and it didn’t budge the Warriors one bit. The Celtics are shooting 38.3 percent from deep in their last five games and have topped 100 points in six of their last seven games. We were thrilled with the way we played during the first three quarters.
In other action, Kevin Durant scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as OKC routed Memphis.
As the Golden State Warriors continue to pile up wins, they’re beginning to lose healthy bodies.
If Thompson can not play against the Celtics, it is unclear who would start in his place.
Sacramento established a 12-point lead after one quarter and led throughout in a 114-106 win against Utah, with both DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay scoring 23 points. “Thompson and Curry always shoot extremely well, and when they got on that run, we lost them in coverage several times”. Lopez had 24 points and eight rebounds as the Nets escaped with a five-point win at home. Of their 27 straight wins, 13 have been on the road and in order to keep the streak alive and threaten the all-time mark the Warriors need just two more road victories.
