Warriors go back to work minus stress of the streak
The Warriors said they weren’t happy with the way the Bucks celebrated their 108-95 victory in Milwaukee on Saturday, when Golden State had its 28-game winning streak snapped. Curry had what seemed like a pedestrian night, but he too almost notched a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Even the notoriously confident defending champions, though, readily admit that Friday’s re-match with the Milwaukee Bucks at Oracle Arena means just a bit more than any typical regular season game.
Michael Carter-Williams scored 24 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 for the Bucks, who have lost five of six but have been Golden State’s toughest opponent to date. It was the most points the Warriors had surrendered in any half this season.
Those shirts proved prophetic, but may have poked the bear more than the Bucks players would have wanted with a game at Golden State so soon after. “Mayo, one of seven Bucks who scored in double figures with 12 points, countered, “They’re world champs and we played them well tonight”.
“The Bucks held a 100-89 advantage in the fifth minute of the fourth quarter before the Warriors rallied”. Less than a minute later, Ezeli’s dunk would put the Warriors up 103-102, and the Dubs would never trail again. Curry then got fouled on a 3-pointer and made all three free throws to tie the game at 100 at the midpoint of the quarter.
The Warriors have been vocal about their displeasure with Milwaukee, not so much because that’s where the streak was vanquished, but because they felt the degree to which the Bucks gloated seemed gratuitous.
“They took the time out to waste money on the T-shirt, which is cool”, Kidd said.
Golden State, and its fans, took exception to the Bucks’ “24-1” T-shirts last week.
Iguodala then bombed in his 3-pointer from the left corner, giving the Warriors their biggest lead of the game at 115-108 with 1:21 to go. I saw them on “SportsCenter” afterward, but I got a good laugh out of it. That’s part of what we do, playing in front of thousands of people and seeing home crowds making creative signs or T-shirts.
The Pistons scored the first seven points of the fourth OT and hung on. Center Greg Monroe, their big free-agent acquisition this summer, sustained a mild knee injury earlier this week that forced him to miss the last two games and could keep him out of action.
