“Warriors”™ Klay Thompson questionable vs. Celtics
All joking aside, prayer is a theme that comes up often when discussing the Golden State Warriors. From Salt Lake City to Boston and all stops in-between on their current seven-city trip, the Warriors are drawing huge crowds clad in blue and yellow.
Shooting guard Klay Thompson was ruled out for the undefeated Warriors’ Friday night game against the Boston Celtics because of an ankle sprain he suffered in the final minute of Tuesday’s victory over the Pacers. By Net Rating, there is no single player’s absence that would result the opponent scoring more than Golden State per 100 possessions. But Curry is leading one of the most magical regular-season runs in National Basketball Association history. Klay Thompson exploded for his season-high 39 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Obviously, foul trouble and the flow of the game affect that, but we don’t like playing Andre and Shaun heavy minutes because of the back-to-back and them being older.
Watch what the ESPN First Take crew had to say about the Celtics chances to end the Warriors streak, in the video below.
If Thompson plays, the Celtics could put Jae Crowder on him and Avery Bradley on Curry, and since Golden State is without Barnes, the Celtics will not have to worry so much about a third option like Barnes.
Fun fact: Last season, Boston was a team in transition, but they gave the eventual champs two very tough games – losing both games, but only by a combined total of 8 points.
The Warriors know every team in the league is gearing up and hoping to be the ones to finally knock the crown of the heads of the champions. But their 27-game winning streak is most likely to end against the Boston Celtics come Friday night. But with him going off like he did last season, the Celtics dropped their two contests against the Warriors by a combined eight points. What Curry needs to do is to lead the Warriors to numerous championships, starting with their title defense this season.
On the other hand, the Celtics may not have an unbeaten run, but with a 13-9 record, they have surpassed the expectations set on them early in the season. As the Warriors showed yesterday vs the Pacers, you can’t be a pace and space team and beat the Warriors, they are better at that than you. Boston is playing really well right now, but the Warriors are a team that can make the Celtics take a few steps back as a team.
Being constantly poked and prodded by aggressive journalists looking to be the one to finally get the scoop on what keeps the Warriors winning has to become brain numbing after a while.
The Warriors already are without forward Harrison Barnes, who is sidelined with an ankle injury. They get you on back cuts because you’re anxious about the guards. We’ve seen the team play great defense against some of the better teams in the league, and they’re usually up for these big games.
