Warriors’ Klay Thompson says ankle is ’70 percent’
One half of the Splash Brothers, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, is uncertain last Friday versus the Boston Celtics after suffering a right ankle sprain in Tuesday’s 131-123 win over the Indiana Pacers, their 23rd consecutive. Thompson knocked down ten threes in their last outing against the Indiana Pacers Tuesday night, while scoring 29 points in the first half and finishing the game with 39 points before injuring his ankle in the fourth quarter.
Greg Dickerson and Dan Shaughnessy agree that the Warriors being undefeated has been a good thing for the league. “I felt like I was due for a game like that”, Thompson told reporters afterwards. “You know why, because the rest of the league is down”. “I give it up, move to the corner, set a couple of screens for guys, maybe get it back, or Draymond puts it on the floor, gets to the paint, makes a play”.
Congrats to the @Warriors on their 27-game win streak.
Said Thompson, who rolled an ankle stepping on another player’s foot: “I was very selective with my shots”. Under all those championship banners hanging from the Garden’s rafters, Golden State will be gunning for its 24th straight win to start the year. Maybe it’s Kerr’s rotation usage (dutifully continued by interim coach Luke Walton in Kerr’s extended absence), or maybe it’s the sensory deprivation chambers in downtown San Francisco that the Warriors so love to frequent.
Stephen Curry is 11 for 23 from the field, with seven rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.
The Warriors are averaging an NBA-best 115.8 points per game – 7.3 more than the Oklahoma City Thunder, who rank second.
“We’ve got to handle the end of the game better”.
Thompson has recently rehabbed back soreness that plagued him earlier in the season. He can guard a variety of players occasionally can provide 3-point shooting, although he is clearly lower on the totem pole when it comes to that on this team. But the Warriors’ roster is full of team first players who routinely sacrifice individual numbers for team success.
Throughout the streak the Warriors have dropped opponents by an average of 13.3 points per game, claiming 15 games by 10 or more points and three by 20 or more, and they don’t seem perturbed or shaken by hostile crowds. “We’ve got to look at as it’s another game, another chance to get another win, and carry ourselves like that, because if we get over there and try to get excited, they’re just going to blow us out”.
