Warriors make NBA history as first team to start season 16-0
Interim Luke Walton is leading the way, and it might have been a little sweeter to set the record against the Lakers franchise he helped win two titles.
“It’s a huge accomplishment”, Curry said.
Curry spoke of winning with such gusto that while he actually did agree with Walton, he wouldn’t quite rule out perfection.
The Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala (9) celebrates after making a dunk on a pass by Stephen Curry (30) against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second half at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday. “It’s kind of a quiet confidence that we don’t feel like we’re going to lose anytime soon”, Curry said after Sunday’s record-tying win over the Denver Nuggets.
The Warriors led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter.
At halftime, it certainly looks as though the Warriors are well on their way to their 16th victory of the season as they lead a lackluster Lakers team, 54-38. The loss ended Washington’s three-game winning streak.
“I was telling somebody that I think we’ll have more ticketed fans in the building than we’ve ever had”, Schneider said.
Golden State became the sixth team in National Basketball Association history to win 20 consecutive regular-season games, a streak dating to last season. “Of course not. Anything is possible”. “It was definitely different seeing him go 1-for-14, but I try to focus on the fact that it is still great to see him out on the court playing in that Laker uniform, finishing his career with that team”. If there is a bright spot for the Lakers it comes in the form of first-round draft pick, rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell, who received significant minutes in the loss recording arguably his best game of the season with 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists. For every 1st place vote a team gets, they receive 15 points.
Last season, Kobe had another 1-for-14 game, but tacked on seven free throws to total nine points. He shared a long embrace with his former teammate, Walton, who has led his team into the record books.
“I could have scored 80 tonight, it wouldn’t have made a damn difference”, Bryant said. The Lakers best chance is if Kobe Bryant turns it on and plays like the future hall of famer that he is. Though the Lakers did manage to win the second period (27-24), the Warriors’ lead was never in danger.
But the Warriors responded immediately with an 8-0 run as Thompson scored five straight points and assisted on Barnes’ 3-pointer.
Paul George scored a season-high 40 points and made seven 3-pointers, while C.J. Miles added 32 points, including eight 3-pointers, in his highest-scoring game since joining the Pacers before the start of last season.
The coaches congratulated the players, and the players appreciated each other.
