Warriors News: Gerald Wallace Trade for Jason Thompson
Tucked into the 76ers’ much-applauded offseason deal with the Sacramento Kings was talented, durable forward Jason Thompson. It’s a combination move for the Warriors, who acquired Wallace for former All-Star David Lee from the Boston Celtics in a deal finalized earlier this week. The Golden State Warriors announced Friday that they acquired Thompson for Gerald Wallace in addition to draft and cash considerations for the Sixers.
“We’ve very happy to add Jason to our roster”, Myers said in a statement.
Wallace, a first-round draft pick in 2001, has spent 14 years in the National Basketball Association and averaged 1.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.44 steals in 832 regular-season games. The defending champs can add Thompson to a rotation that starts Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut with Marreese Speights, Festus Ezeli, James McAdoo, and rookie Kevon Looney on the bench. Playing for the Warriors will be a new winning experience for Thompson, as the Kings went just 173-385 during his seven seasons. Thompson averaged 6.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 81 games last season, starting 63. “The 6’11” forward/center recorded seven double-doubles in 2014-15, including his first career 20/20 game when he tallied 23 points and a career-high 22 rebounds on January 17 vs. the Clippers, one of only three players to post those numbers in a game last season (DeMarcus Cousins, Kenneth Faried).
Why would the Sixers trade for a a 14-year veteran?
The Heat’s first-round pick is Top 10 protected and likely to be conveyed to the Sixers in 2016.
