Warriors now two wins from record
It was a surprisingly good start to the game for the Chicago Bulls.
The Denver Nuggets are coming off a 114-107 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday night. Mudiay had been projected to go top-3 in the draft, but began to fall leading the Nuggets to select him and deal incumbent point guard Ty Lawson in an all-out rebuilding effort. A jumper by Mirotic gave the Bulls a 42-40 lead, but the Warriors took the advantage into halftime. Stephen Curry led the team in scoring with 27 points on 9-for-20 shooting. Stephen Curry is averaging over 34 points per game in the first chunk of the season.
Curry has now hit a three-pointer in 104 straight games (regular season and playoffs combined), including 83-straight consecutive regular season games.
The Warriors are the best team in the league, by far. Will Barton has been a pleasant surprise for the Nuggets as well, as he is adding 14 points per game. According to NBA.com, the quintet have a net rating of 61.8, including a 153.7 offensive rating. ORACLE proceeds to go bonkers, as well they should. When the Warriors downsize to close out games, the games cease being competitive.
“When it’s winning time, it’s incredible how good they’ve gotten at locking in and getting the job done”, Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton said.
In a high-level game, during which there were 17 ties and 18 lead changes, the Warriors dominated the final 5 ½ minutes Friday night for a 106-94 victory over Chicago and their 14th straight win to open the season.
After the game, Thompson laughed when asked how opponents are supposed to crack this unit.
The Warriors’ win over Denver in their last clash brought their SU record in the past 10 games to 6-4. This year, he already has 71 through 14 games and must be licking his chops to visit the Mile High City and Denver’s porous 3-point defense. They evened the score at 92-92 on a three by Kirk Hinrinch with under six minutes to play, but Curry answered for the Warriors, knocking down a trey in response. Andre Iguodala hit a pair that left Golden State trailing 112-110. This season, he is shooting 70.8 percent in the restricted area this season, fourth among players who have attempted at least 4.0 shots per game in that area according to NBA.com/Stats.
The Golden State Warriors may never lose again. Golden State has gone 13-0 without the runner-up for the 2014-2015 Coach of the Year.
It may seem impossible to believe, but the 2014-15 National Basketball Association MVP has gotten even better this season.
The uphill climb continued and Golden State were within 96-95 on a Barnes 3-pointer, but the Clipppers hung on with a 16-7 run for a 112-102 lead with 5:05 minutes left. He finished with 35 points, the most Golden State has allowed this season. He missed 11 of his 20 field-goal attempts and shot 3-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Quote of note: “The schedule is insane right now, in the next two weeks we really have to get a few grit”.
With 6.1 blocks per game, the Golden State Warriors rank fifth in the league.
The Washington Capitols in 1948-49 and Houston Rockets in ’93-94 are the other teams to start 15-0.
