Warriors pull away from Nets, go to 22-0
That appeared to be the danger against Brooklyn, but even that potential narrative was quickly rewritten by the Warriors.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was just the seventh time in National Basketball Association history two players-teammates or opponents-have put up at least 40 points with at least seven dimes in the same regulation game.
By that point, given how they continue to find ways to win, a 25-0 record isn’t out of the realm of possibility. “We want to keep it going”.
Thanks to Curry’s ridiculous performance the other night against the Hornets at Charlotte – he scored 28 points in the third quarter – the Warriors tied the record for best start to a season by a North American pro sports team.
Klay Thompson had 21 points and three rebounds, Draymond Green scored 22 points and was a rebound away from a double-double and Andrew Bogut (back) finished with zero points after missing Saturday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.
On the next possession, Curry gave the Warriors the lead for good with an uncontested three-pointer. But the lack of focus gave Brooklyn a window in which to close the margin and reverse momentum. After a 9-0 Golden State run to start the game and a strong first quarter, the greatest show on earth seems to have fallen to earth with a thud, allowing the Nets to grab a second-half lead.
Luke Walton’s response to the adversity?
Players will usually receive a pair of tickets for each road game, but the team’s public-relations staff will handle additional requests. In situations where Kerrmight be inclined to tinker, Walton simply lets the players self-correct (or in Speights’ case, on occasion, self-destruct). The Nets rallied mostly against Warriors starters.
There was Stephen Curry going through his artistic pregame shooting routine, hitting jumpers from every angle on every spot on the floor as his side of the court was stuffed with onlookers.
That moment arrived in the third quarter against the Brooklyn Nets when for a brief moment it appeared that the Golden State Warriors’ unbeaten streak was in jeopardy. They did it inside and outside, assisted and one-on-one. We went small, they went small with us, and we were able to make a huge headway. When he slowly dribbles the ball towards the 3-point line, lowers his body and then pulls up. Mike Conley had 12 points and Mario Chalmers finished with 11.
The Washington Wizards’ three-game winning run was ended in emphatic fashion by the Indiana Pacers, who made it nine victories out of 11 with a 123-106 success. The turnovers ceased – the Warriors had only 2 in the game’s final 17 minutes (both in the final 3 minutes, after the game was decided). When the dust cleared, the Warriors’ second unit had re-established the 17-point lead the starters had previously squandered. Howard scored 22 points on 7 of 9 shooting. Against Brooklyn, the group almost matched that total in the fourth quarter’s first five minutes, scoring 19 points. The Warriors led 87-80 headed into the fourth after the reigning MVP’s latest outburst. Even on nights when they’re battling some fatigue, they can come through it with victories. When the reserves struggle to generate offense, the starters are ready to pour in points.
Insofar as they were facing the Nets on the second night of a back-to-back set, quality depth was crucial to the Warriors maintaining perfection.
