Warriors pushed by Jazz, improve to 19-0
There have been some battles.
“What gets lost in the record is the tough games we’ve had to claw our way out of like (Monday’s)”, he said. Green also had 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the Warriors, who improved to 9-0 on the road.
“Yeah, it was fun”. The fact that the Jazz didn’t get absolutely blown out of the water by such an elite team is a testament in and of itself that they are growing. Utah could try to overwhelm the Warriors up front with the likes of Trevor Booker, Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert.
Blake Griffin scored 23 points, DeAndre Jordan had 18 with 24 rebounds, and the Clippers (10-8) overcame the third quarter loss of All-Star guard Chris Paul to a rib muscle strain to beat the visiting Trail Blazers for their third straight win.
Curry made sure of that by draining a 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 104-101 lead with 51.9 seconds remaining.
“Yeah, they could [break the 33-game streak] – because they’re good”.
After Curry missed a 3-pointer, the Jazz had a chance to take the lead, but Hood missed a three-pointer from the wing with five seconds left. “We had a chance”. The Warriors entered the game averaging more than nine steals per contest, but managed only two against Utah.
Rookie Stanley Johnson had 19 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for Detroit, while James Harden scored 29 for the Rockets. Alec Burks scored 19 points off the bench.
The lead didn’t last long. Then Curry hit another 3-pointer.
Again, Utah’s lead was short-lived.
Andre Drummond supplied 24 points and 13 rebounds despite shooting four-for-18 from the free-throw line. “We’re not surprised. We know that’s going to happen throughout the course of the season, but I think we responded well”.
The Jazz are a seven-point underdog in this game and the Over/Under (O/U) is 201 points.
The Warriors have now completed the first leg of their seven-game road trip, which continues Wednesday night at Charlotte against the Hornets.
The biggest advantage the Warriors would have in a playoff series against the Jazz would be Utah’s inability to go small.
The Jazz (8-8), who return to action Thursday at home against Orlando, have more positives than negatives to take away from this slugfest between a heavyweight and an up-and-coming contender.
Earlier in the fourth quarter, Shaun Livingston hit his first 3 this season to give the Warriors a 93-92 lead and then hit a floater 23 seconds later to expand that lead.
Jazz: G Dante Exum (L knee surgery) and C Tibor Pleiss were on the inactive list.
“Whether it means understanding how we have to play, understanding things about our team and knowing how to execute a game plan and being able to measure yourself against the best team in the league”. INJURY REPORT: Warriors – SF Harrison Barnes (Out, ankle), SF Kevon Looney (Late January, hip). “Not good, great. [The Warriors are] the best team in the league and we’re right there”. “He deserves a lot of credit, because that’s not easy when you don’t play consistently and you get thrown in there to be professional enough to stay ready.”…
