Warriors rally to grab 13th victory
Thompson hit a 3 for a 113-112 lead with 2:43 left.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career-high 33 points as the Bucks rallied to close the gap to five late in the third quarter after falling behind by as many as 21. He also tied Green for the team lead with nine rebounds.
Stephen Curry was 3-of-4, all from 3-point range. Jamal Crawford added 15 points. Antetokounmpo was 12 of 15 from the field and made all eight of his free throws.
Gordon Hayward scored 22 points for the Jazz.
The Warriors became just the fourth team to open season at 13-0, and are within two victories of matching the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and the 1993-94 Houston Rockets for the best start in league history.
After falling to Golden State in their first meeting this season, the Clippers on Thursday night had a chance to beat the defending champions and it seemed they might when leading by 23 points in the first half. Danilo Gallinari is averaging 18 points and 5.5 rebounds while Will Barton is averaging 14.1 points and 1.9 assists.
Andrew Bogut’s Warriors, who were down by as much as 23 points in the second quarter and behind at every break, blitzed the Clippers during the fourth quarter to win 124-117.
“We wanted to protect our home court”, Curry said. The Clippers played the game without starting shooting guard J.J. Redick, who was out while recovering from back spasms, but they had little trouble generating offense.
It helped the Warriors case that Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was ruled out before the game. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 18 points, and Curry had 17.
Curry was contained in the first quarter when the Clippers grabbed the 41-25 lead. It’ll be fascinating to see how the Bulls counter the Warriors’ small-ball attack (Draymond Green at center) when they’ve got the quartet of Taj Gibson, Pau Gasol, Joakim Noah and Nikola Mirotic.
Before the Clippers hosted Golden State, Paul Pierce said the problem with the undefeated Warriors was their confidence. “I think they made a statement of being more together”, Griffin said.
“I thought right at the end of the second quarter was when we stopped playing with the same force that we played with the first quarter and a half”.
Golden State achieved a huge come-from-behind win over the LA Clippers to be 13-0 this National Basketball Association season.
“We haven’t brought it up at all yet, but we’re close enough now”, he said. He got the best of Chris Paul, who scored 35 points but had to suffer the indignity of seeing the Warriors claim the largest comeback win in the league this season.
