Warriors ready for shot at revenge against Bucks Friday
Golden State’s NBA-record start ended after 24 games with the 108-95 loss to Milwaukee.
The Bucks took their dominance into the third quarter by staying on top of Golden State, but the Warriors, who outshot the Bucks with 27 points in the third, were not done yet. SF Draymond Green’s fourth triple-double of the season tied him with Sacramento Kings PG Rajon Rondo for the league lead….
Stephen Curry scored 26 points and Green fueled a key fourth-quarter run that helped the Warriors avenge their only loss by beating the Bucks 121-112 Friday. “I think now we can settle in more to the season”.
After allowing Milwaukee to shoot 59.5 percent in the first half, the Warriors held the Bucks to 38.1 percent in the third quarter and 32.1 percent in the fourth. Warriors center Festus Ezeli got involved as did Bucks players Khris Middleton and Greg Monroe. “Let’s come protect our court.’ It was important to get back in the swing of things”.
“I just knew if I was going to get those shots all game, was going to knock them down”, he said.
Last week, when the Bucks snapped Golden State’s 24-game winning streak to open the season, Warriors players weren’t happy with how they celebrated.
“Show your class”, Mayo said he told Green before patting him on the head and touching off a minor physical altercation.
Green had 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Ezeli contributed a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Warriors, who were playing for the second time on a five-game homestand.
“We were very public about the fact that we wanted to get revenge”. You better believe the Dubs will keep that in mind during Friday’s rematch between the teams.
Green scored eight points in a span of 1:06 to cut Milwaukee’s lead to 100-97.
“It has been kind of a playoff feel just with the streak and all the media and attention around”, Green said. “That’s what we needed at that point”.
“People always say that three-point shooting teams can’t win championships and they can’t if they are just trying to outscore people”, Walton said. “For us, a lot of good things came out of this”. “They played great against us”. A bad game for Curry so far this season is when he only scores 19 points, which he has done twice, but Curry has had six 40-point games, and one 50-point game.
Carter-Williams had 17 points in the latest defeat and has averaged 17.7 in a three-game stretch, a result of his increased role with backcourt mates Greivis Vasquez and Jerryd Bayless sidelined by ankle injuries. Even the notoriously confident defending champions, though, readily admit that Friday’s re-match with the Milwaukee Bucks at Oracle Arena means just a bit more than any typical regular season game.
Suns: Phoenix surrendered 15 3-pointers this time after giving up a Golden State franchise-best 22 from long range – and NBA-record 15 in the first half – in the first meeting with the Warriors on November 27…. It was a big game for them.
Bring on the Bucks. The Golden State Warriors tuned up on Wednesday for the only team that has beaten them this National Basketball Association (NBA) season by blowing away the Phoenix Suns 128-103.
“The fight was there and the intent was right”, coach Jason Kidd said.
