Warriors surge to 23-0 as Thompson, Curry combine for 68 points
The more games the Warriors keep winning, the more impressive their undefeated start to the 2015-16 regular season becomes.
And the Pacers, who are one of those frenzied teams?
You’re wondering what happened, and why? The Warriors caught on, the team quit hitting, and the Pacers had nothing to fall back on – enter the 20+ point run that GSW had in the first quarter. Their ability to spread the floor and attack with speed and spacing is a model for IN to study and learn from.
“This is about as good as it’s going to get until April and May”, George said. “They’re light years ahead of us”. “They were excited about this game”.
The Warriors literally staged an opening-half offensive clinic, making 30 of 48 field goal attempts (62.5 percent) and scoring a season-high 79 points. Thompson scored eight of those points before passing the torch to Curry.
Thompson played down a slight ankle injury which forced him to miss most of the fourth quarter. They are the perfectly constructed modern National Basketball Association team, a team that is now providing the model for the rest of the league.
Curry said, ” You want to be the best you can be.
“You can try to copy it, but you won’t have the personnel”, the reigning MVP said in a recent wide-ranging interview with ESPN The Magazine.
“He’s coming off an MVP season, but he just continues to get better”. They allowed a franchise-worst 80 points in the first half at the Lakers in November 1978.
We’re starting to get anxious though…
That would include the Pacers, going through their recipe book.
A Thompson baseline jumper with 3:49 left in the third quarter gave Golden State a 100-74 lead. We’re not trying to mimic them.
In fewer than five minutes, the Warriors put together a 22-0 run in the first quarter.
He said besides Golden State, there aren’t many other teams who attract that much attention. “They kind of exploited it”.
It’s a testimony to the excellence of the Warriors that we’re entertaining the idea. In this case, the prospect of the Warriors winning 33 in a row-however you add it up-is potentially historic. The defense needs something of a reboot. He can guard anybody at any position and has become one of the best defensive players in the game. Curry has set the bar so high that I was convinced he had a so-so game Tuesday night. A bunch of guys having fun, shooting threes, dunking, everybody passing, behind-the-back passes. Thompson told reporters Wednesday he wants to play, but the decision might not be his to make.
Bottom line lesson Tuesday night? Not yet, anyway. Someone else will have to finally hand them a loss.
Last season’s NBA Finals seemed to prove that Curry was the best player on the best team in the league, but that LeBron’s heroics were the only reason the Warriors-Cavaliers series even went six games. It’s not the proof of greatness-it’s just what great teams do.
“It’s one game of 82”.
If that occurs, George said he plans to be physical.
