Warriors Survive Jazz to Move to 19-0
Where the Warriors can’t lose (even when they’re down 23 points) and setting team records here and there, the Philadelphia 76ers can’t win despite strong performances and are going down in infamy.
Stephen Curry scored 26 points and the Golden State Warriors held on for their league-record 19th consecutive victory to start the season, beating the Utah Jazz 106-103 on Monday night.
Curry missed a three-pointer, giving the Jazz a chance to take the lead.
Green has been the NBA’s foremost stat stuffer this season with averages of 12.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.7 blocks and 1.6 3-pointers per game, while Thompson averages 16.1 points and 2.4 threes per game. Gordon Hayward had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Alec Burks added 24 – the last of those a 3-pointer as time expired – for the Jazz.
The Warriors’ streak of 23 straight regular season wins dating back to last season is now the third-longest in National Basketball Association history.
“I’ve kind of got the gist of my emotions and what it feels like to go back home and play with all the family and hoopla around the game”, Curry said.
When Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge built this Celtics roster, they did so with the goal of constructing a team that had endless combinations of lineups and the ability to match up with any and every opponent. If they’re 41 and 2 or something like that then I would say they probably have a good shot.
Without Jefferson, who is Charlotte’s third-leading scorer (13.7 points per game) and second in rebounds (6.4 per game), they will have to lean on their perimeter threats of Nicolas Batum, Kemba Walker, and Jeremy Lamb.
To say that The Golden State Warriors started their season strongly would be an understatement.
Rookie Stanley Johnson had 19 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for Detroit, while James Harden scored 29 for the Rockets.
Curry was 1 of 10 from 3-point range and the Warriors made 42.4 percent from the field in last season’s visit to Time Warner Cable Arena, but they won 106-101 on November 28, 2014 behind reserve forward Marreese Speights’ 27 points. His 12 points at halftime were the most out of any Warriors player. Livingston added a jumper that gave the Warriors a 95-92 lead. One tied the game while the other two gave the Warriors a lead.
The Warriors got the win, but the Jazz demonstrated that they are a young team on the rise. Harrison Barnes, who is expected to be out for at least a week, missed the game due to an ankle injury. Tied at 101-101 entering the final minute of regulation, Curry nailed a stepback three with 51 seconds on the clock for what ended up being the winning bucket. In games where Golden State has a TOV% of 16.7% or higher, the team is undefeated (8-0).
The Jazz, who had a recovery day instead of practice Tuesday, were kicking themselves over a few loose ends not named Steph Curry that ultimately allowed a victory over the Warriors to unravel into the team’s eighth loss of the year.
Ironically, the Golden State Warriors would surpass the 33-0 record if they win against the Los Angeles Lakers on January 5 at the Staples Center.
