Warriors: The 5 keys to their record-breaking 16-0 start
“I doubt it, I highly doubt it”, joked NBA MVP Stephen Curry.
The Golden State Warriors handily won against the Los Angeles Lakers, 111-77, on Tuesday to extend their winning streak to 16, officially giving them the distinction of having the best start for the season in the history of the National Basketball Association.
Golden State, who are the defending champions, eclipsed the previous record of 15-0 held by the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets.
Although the Lakers matched up Golden State with 22 points in the final quarter the damage was already done and it was simply too late.
After the game, Curry said in his television interview that it was “special” to be in the history books. “It’s not going to be total dominance for 82 games”.
“The great teams are the ones that can focus on each individual game”.
According to Bryant, his personal performances aren’t the reason for the Lakers’ woeful 2-12 record.
“I’m not really anxious about it, honestly”, Bryant said.
The former Lakers player said coaches had quickly encouraged the Warriors players to move on now that the season-start record had been achieved.
“Anything’s possible”, Walton said. “Eventually we will lose”. “It’s natural to let down at some point”. The Suns have the next shot at stopping this incredible start when the Warriors visit Phoenix on Friday night.
As Bryant finished with a mere four points, his plethora of missed attempts including three airballs (watch video above) drew thunderous cheers from the Oracle Arena crowd. The 37-year-old is averaging 30.5 minutes per game, but red flags were raised when he logged 35 and 36 minutes in consecutive games last week.
“We’re trying to get better”.
“We both have a creative style, where it’s just about a feel when you’re out on the pitch or on the court”, Curry said.
At the lowest point in his career, which was his first year back after a 1-year hiatus, Michael Jordan was shooting 41% from the floor. The Warriors knocked down five of their first 12 from long range to build a 27-9 lead with 1:41 left in the opening period. “You could see that he was pretty frustrated in himself”.
Walton seemed more thrilled that the Warriors beat the Lakers by committing only eight turnovers while dishing out 32 assists. He tells me when he is exhausted and he tells me when he’s not exhausted. Green wears Richardson’s No. 23. I love watching him play.
Coach Byron Scott insists that Kobe Bryant is not the problem of the losing Los Angeles Lakers. Ultimately, that is leading to them not winning games.
