Warriors’ Thompson out for Friday’s game
Klay Thompson #11 of the Golden State Warriors celebrates during the game against the Indiana Pacers on December 8, 2015 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The defending National Basketball Association champions have won 27 in a row overall.
Kelly Olynyk led the Celtics with 28 points.
The Warriors (23-0) are already without starting forward Harrison Barnes, who continues to rehab a sprained ankle suffered in the team’s November 27 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Green’s 5×5 game (five in five statistical categories) was the first in the National Basketball Association since 2012.
Curry’s 3-point basket with 46 seconds tied the game at 103, forcing the first overtime, and he later scored to force a second overtime.
The Warriors beat the Celtics twice last season, by three and five points, but the second game in Boston was memorable. Now the Warriors have to travel from Boston to Milwaukee for the second night of a back-to-back. The Celtics (13-10) rallied from 11 points down to throw a real scare into the Warriors, who won their second overtime game of the season and are 6-0 on their current road trip.
Iguodala scored nine of his 13 points in the two overtimes. The Warriors face a tough turnaround as they play at Milwaukee on Saturday to wrap up a seven-game road trip.
The game brought a playoff atmosphere and a sold-out crowd to the new Boston Garden, but this time the loyalties were more divided than usual. Curry received a huge ovation in pregame introductions….
After the game, Golden State fans remained long after the final buzzer, cheering Curry when he went to the locker room after his postgame, on-court TV interview. The Celtics went 2 for 7 from the free throw line in the first half…. Boston G Marcus Smart (lower leg) missed his 11th straight game and likely won’t return until January…. Curry had eight turnovers – three of them when he stepped out of bounds in the fourth quarter and overtimes.
