Warriors tie best start in National Basketball Association history
That’s when Golden State’s defense tightened, and it turned Nuggets misses into fast break points.
Curry led the Warriors to a 4-0 week with averages of 30.8 points (second in the NBA), 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.00 steals (tied for third) in 35.0 minutes, hitting 50.6 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from three-point range and 96.0 percent at the line. The defending league champions remained ideal with an NBA-record-tying 15th consecutive win to open the season after Sunday’s 118-105 road victory over the Denver Nuggets. As long as the Warriors have the Small Ball Death Squad at their disposable, there’s no reason to doubt them.
Warriors: Host the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. They look better than last year’s 67 win team, and while they are muting their celebrations they are well aware of what the team has a chance to accomplish. It was a bench unit that pulled away from the Nuggets in the second half, allowing Curry to spend the fourth quarter on the bench.
“It would be more impressive if they were doing all this without Steph”, James said.
Curry took just 16 shots for his season low in points, but the Warriors did not need the MVP to hand the Nuggets their third straight loss.
The reigning National Basketball Association champion Warriors matched the record 15-0 opening achieved by Washington in 1948-49 and by the Houston Rockets in 1993-94. “It’s kind of a quiet confidence that we don’t feel like we’re going to lose anytime soon”, Curry said after the historic win. His backcourt partner, Klay Thompson, led the team in scoring with 21 points on top of seven assists and three rebounds. He played just 28, one more than his fewest this season, and he got some valuable rest.
But the Warriors responded immediately with an 8-0 run as Thompson scored five straight points and assisted on Barnes’ 3-pointer.
Two nights after the Celtics won by 25 in Boston, the Nets dominated the second quarter that was pivotal in both games and held on after blowing most of a 22-point lead, their largest of the season.
Lakers coach Byron Scott said the Warriors are the best team he’s seen in a while and star guard Kobe Bryant said stranger things have happened than a team playing as poorly as the Lakers beating one as dominant as the Warriors.
Kenneth Faried was unavailable for tonight’s game due to an injury to his ankle.
“I’m pleased with all our young guys because this is a hard business to be in when you’re so young”, coach Sam Mitchell said.
