Warriors trade David Lee to Celtics for Wallace : Sports
David Lee, a ex- All-Star for the Warriors who accepted a bench role on their National Basteball Association championship team, is reportedly headed to the Boston Celtics in a trade for Gerald Wallace that was agreed upon Tuesday. The forward averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game. With Draymond Green stepping up and the team playing so well, his days were numbered.
Lee will earn $15.4 million next season with the Celtics in the final year of a six-year, $80-million deal he originally signed with the Warriors in 2010.
Lee, a ex- All-Star, was a starter for the Warriors during his first four years with the team but saw limited action for the National Basteball Association champions in 2014-15. “Much love”.
“For him to come in after the way this season has gone, the fact that his dumb coach hasn’t played him enough probably, he’s kept his attitude up”, Warriors Coach Steve Kerr told the San Jose Mercury News during the National Basteball Association Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Lee has career averages of 14.7 points and 9.5 rebounds, including 16.7 points and 9.3 rebounds with the Warriors. When he missed time at the start of the season because of a hamstring injury, Green stepped into the lineup and proved to be indispensable. Lee wrote that they were the best five years of his life.
Lee is a two-time National Basteball Association All-Star. He played in and came off the bench in 32 games last season.
Whether there’s a role for Wallace on the Warriors is uncertain. But general manager Danny Ainge was stuck with his original picks after failing to engineer a deal like the one that brought Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to the Celtics in 2007, leading to their league-record 17th National Basteball Association championship. The small forward averaged 1.1 points in nine minutes per game.
Wallace will have to fight for minutes on a deep and talented Warriors team that includes forwards Green, Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes, Marreese Speights and Brandon Rush.
