Warriors up to 23-0 and counting after beating Pacers
Golden State Warriors wing Klay Thompson sprained his ankle in Tuesday night’s 131-123 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
-I don’t agree with the NBA’s ruling on the length of the streak; I happen to think each season is separate from the other, and that the Warriors’ streak is really the 23 games this current incarnation has won; but it’s the NBA’s record and I’ll abide by the NBA’s ruling.
The reigning champions scored 111 points after just three quarters, sparked by Klay Thompson’s season-high 39 points, which inclued 10 three-pointers and eight in the first half alone.
According to Fivethirtyeight, there is a one-in-four chance the Warriors win at least 75 games while my own simulations have those chances slightly less (one in seven or 14.5 percent chance). That’s how they pushed their season-opening win streak to 23 and their overall streak to 27 while becoming the only National Basketball Association team to win its first 13 road games.
“We play an up-tempo style, which means games can get into the 100s on each side, but we still have to involve our defensive principles”, Pacers coach Frank Vogel said.
There is built in drama and automatic anticipation (could they lose? what if they go flat?)… then release (no, they won again) and more anticipation (when’s the next game? could they lose?).
“He had eight 3s at the half”, Curry said. Even for a juggernaut like Golden State, the line between winning a championship and ending a season disappointed is razor thin – to the point that Thompson’s quietly disappointing play could push his team over come June. Both of them went to the bench at the end of the third quarter with Golden State up by 28 points, but the reserves let IN cut into the lead and they had to return. All together, for the first three quarters, the Warriors found themselves in an upward spiral of selfless efficiency – with each adjustment resulting in better looks. Curry is the league’s top-selling athlete in more than 40 states and the NBA’s top-selling player overall, a Fanatics spokesman said.
Before they return home, the Golden States Warriors will play against the Boston Celtics on Friday and the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. They scored 79 first-half points.
The Good The Golden State Warriors. Curry had 29 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists.
And the tickets will only get more expensive if the Warriors stay unbeaten.
Warriors guard Stephen Curry shoots between Pacers players Solomon Hill, left, and Jordan Hill during Tuesday’s game in Indianapolis.
The Warriors shot the ball well at almost 55% overall, just over 44% from distance, but looked like the dominant team from about three minutes in and on.
“It’s impressive”, Indiana’s C.J. Miles was saying afterward.
Thaddeus Young finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Nets, who have recorded two of their six victories this season against Houston. It also includes a Christmas Day date with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. “One of the lessons we learned early was when a team scores on you, run it back down at them”.
