Warriors Vs Clippers Scores: Stephen Curry Strikes Again, Warriors Win 112-108
The Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers faced each other on Wednesday night in another competitive contest between the two Western Conference powerhouses.
Curry averaged a league-high 39.3 points, 7.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds in leading the Warriors to victories over New Orleans, Houston and New Orleans again.
“You start to get creative, try to be more aggressive and just test out the hot hand”, Curry said as he has now stockpiled 118 points in just three games. The Golden State Warriors are averaging 119 points on 48.5 percent shooting and allowing 94 points on 38 percent shooting. The final two points of that streak came by way of free throws that put the Warriors up four points with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game.
And it’s not like Golden State has been beating up on the scrubs of the league. Draymond Green is grabbing 7.5 rebounds and Andre Iguodala is dishing 3.5 assists.
After drilling seven 3-pointers to increase his season total to 28, Curry now has hit seven more long balls through five games than any player since the 3-point line was introduced. Harrison Barnes ran off for 10 straight points for the Warriors in just 93 seconds, cutting the lead to just one halfway through the fourth quarter.
An offseason war of words that has been waged between Clippers coach Doc Rivers and several Warriors about what role luck played in their championship last season only added to the drama (see full recap).
“I’m more experienced, I think I’m a better player than I was a year ago, ” Curry said after having another great performance. He cooked up an exciting third quarter, where he sank 21 of his 30 points of the night before being taken out of the game in the fourth quarter.
As much as Wednesday night was a reminder of how hard it is to win in the Western Conference right now and how that won’t be a given for the Warriors, Golden State still beat their best challenger to date in one of the NBA’s best current rivalries.
Heading into tonight’s game, the Warriors are favored to come away with the win. The Pelicans also had hoped that adding Tony Douglas to their roster would help them get a win against the Warriors, but it was not to be. His 32.0 minutes per game is his lowest average since the 2011-2012 season. This obviously isn’t going to sustain on this level, but the point guard is playing the best basketball of his career and is making an argument that he’s the best player in the world.
BOGUT CONCUSSION: Bogut is still going through the NBA’s concussion protocol after getting injured in last Tuesday’s season opener against the Pelicans.
