Warriors win 26th straight regular season game and close on Heat’s mark
Statistically, the Warriors are on pace to set even more records. Barring something happening to Curry (perish the thought), the Warriors have depth to at least temporarily withstand any absence. That appeared to be the danger against Brooklyn, but even that potential narrative was quickly rewritten by the Warriors. Injuries, maybe? Certainly not the Brooklyn Nets, though the Dubs avoided a scare from Toronto last game, winning by just three points.
“It’s pretty purposeful”, Curry said of his game-changing run. Stephen Curry scored 44 points to lead the Warriors.
Draymond Green, a perennial stat-sheet stuffer, had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, while Klay Thompson added 21 points as the Warriors won their 26th consecutive regular season game.
Guard Isaiah Thomas led Boston with 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter. While the Warriors are at the top of the league looking down, the Nets are close to the bottom looking up with a 5-15 record.
With 4:21 to go in the third quarter, the Nets threatened the Warriors’ streak with a 70-67 lead.
Luke Walton’s response to the adversity?
The Spurs rank first in opponent scoring per game and are fourth in team rebounding. In situations where Kerr might be inclined to tinker, Walton simply lets the players self-correct (or in Speights’ case, on occasion, self-destruct).
Three-point defense: Not that it’s any easy task against one of the best three-point shooting teams ever, and with a player as prolific as Curry, but the Raptors needed to defend the 3.
In the third quarter, the Nets extended that lead to as many as five, and for a time it seemed as if they’d get another shot at halting history. “When you are good, you are not anxious about who you are playing”.
Then, Curry started to feel it. He hit a running bank shot to tie the score at 76, swished a 3-pointer, tossed the ball up to Festus Ezeli for a dunk, completed a 3-point play, and hit another 3-pointer. They did it inside and outside, assisted and one-on-one.
Anyway, here’s my routine: Sit down after a hard day checking the Internet for Kardashian sightings, crack open a black-market Yuengling imported from Pennsylvania and find the Warriors game for 150 minutes of bliss. The Nets had no answer for Carmelo Anthony, who had 28 points, and rookie sensation Kristaps Porzingis, who had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Brooklyn F/C Andrea Bargnani missed his third straight game with a tight left hamstring. The turnovers ceased – the Warriors had only 2 in the game’s final 17 minutes (both in the final 3 minutes, after the game was decided). The turning point came early, when a combination of Raptor misses and Warriors long balls led to a 16-0 run.
Favors scored a career-high 35 points, and the Jazz rallied for a 122-119 overtime win against Paul George and the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
Yet a dissenting thought is that they’ll wrap up the first seed in the playoffs so early they’ll rest players down the stretch and drop games as a result.
The Nets started to play some good basketball, with wins over Detroit last Sunday and then Phoenix on Tuesday, entering their toughest back-to-back so far, with the Knicks at The Garden on Friday followed by the undefeated Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Two nights ago when they were in Charlotte he had 43.
