Was John Kasich’s Fall Cemented in Milwaukee Debate?
Republican presidential hopefuls met for the fourth time Tuesday at the Milwaukee Theatre in a smaller, but still lively debate.
Lucas Alvarez, a junior sports management major and president of UT’s College Republicans, favors Cruz’s tax plan the most out of all the candidates.
The two polling leaders, Trump and Ben Carson, delivered mixed performances. Ted Cruz’s 12 percent and former Gov. Jeb Bush’s 11 percent.
The “undercard” debate was much less explosive, with most of the back-and-forth coming from an argument between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal . On the day after, Donald Trump was in Iowa for breakfast, saying he feels good about his campaign.
“We’ve got a big field, so we’re going to need these debates to help our voters understand who they support and who they don’t”, said Priebus.
Rubio now says that a single, comprehensive immigration bill is not the way to go and he would not address the status of the people in this country illegally before securing the border and remaking the legal immigration system.
Carson Bio Largely Unquestioned: Coming into the debate, Carson was expected to face tough questions about certain discrepancies in his life story, which has served as a point of inspiration long before he became a presidential candidate. “We all know you can’t pick them up and ship them back across the border”.
“I would not raise the minimum”, Trump plainly stated.
Mr Bush, who was more forceful than in previous debates, said that Ms Clinton’s campaign would be doing high-fives because Mr Trump’s hardline stance on immigration threatened to alienate Latino voters, a fast-growing demographic.
Trump of course did specifically criticize Carly Fiorina, asking “why does she keep interrupting people?” He said those applying to remain legally would have to pass a criminal background check, pay a fine and learn English, among other requirements.
“The world is different than it was five years ago, not to mention 50 or 60 years ago”, said Rubio, who referred to Social Security, Medicare and tax and anti-poverty programs as from different eras.
The debate stage was less cramped compared to a recent CNBC debate in Boulder, Colo. after FOX Business required candidates to have 2.5 percent support in at least four recent national polls in order to qualify for the main event.
Asked if the GOP presidential race feels any more settled after Tuesday’s debate, Johnson said: “It’s still pretty wide open from what I can tell”.
“I think we ought to look at where income inequality seems to be the worst”, Paul said. “I mean, nobody has ever done what I have done”.
With a Democratic debate coming up on November 14 and another Republican debate on December 15, let’s hope we get to hear more thinking about not just climate change, but a few serious thinking about money in politics too.
The candidates agreed. In the spin room Trump called the debate “elegant”.
