Washington Capitals F TJ Oshie Scores First Goal With Caps
Artemi Panarin #72 of the Chicago Blackhawks hits the puck next to Johnny Boychuk #55 of the New York Islanders in the third period of the National Hockey League game at the United Center on October 10, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois.
However, even after losing Thursday night to the Capitals 4-1, Chicago is getting production from a few new, young faces.
Coming off a 3-0 loss to Philadelphia one night earlier, the Blackhawks trailed by three goals in this one before Viktor Svedberg got his first goal of the season at 3:13 of the third period.
Just a few seconds in, the Capitals took advantage and scored.
The jewel of Brian Maclellan’s summer acquisitions, TJ Oshie, has scored his first goal as a Washington Capital. “We had a good practice (Wednesday); guys were clicking a bit more, working a little harder, and I think guys realize it’s go time now”.
John Tavares, Anders Lee and Kyle Okposo also scored for the Islanders, who fell behind 2-0 early in the second period. Svedberg answered less than a minute later, ending Holtby’s bid for his 21st career shutout. Oshie has played on the top line with Ovechkin and center Evgeny Kuznetsov in preseason and in the first three games. Finally Teuvo Teravainen got in on the action, but he was unable to score on two straight shot attempts as the Capitals continued to lead. Carlson rewarded Holtby’s effort with a spectacular spinning one-timer from the blue line to give the Caps a two-goal lead and run his point total to four, the most on the team so far.
Niskanen made it 3-0 at 2:32 of the third period. If the Blackhawks can contain him from scoring a goal, they should have a good chance to win.
Veteran right winger Jaromir Jagr scored two first-period goals to lead the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Alex Ovechkin did the honors, tapping in a shot on a 2-on-1 rush to make it 4-1 and send the Hawks to their second consecutive defeat.
The season is young, but the Blackhawks have looked less then stellar.
