Washington Redskins fall to the Green Bay Packers in Wild Card Round

In five of the Redskins’ first eight games, in which Washington went 3-5, Cousins attempted at least 40 passes.

“They did whatever they wanted in the second half, ” Redskins defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said.

He spoke about his team staying confident despite being down 11-0.

We lost too many “games within the game” in this fashion, and in a win-or-go-home scenario, that is simply not good enough. Before we talk about any of the negatives from the game, there is a huge positive to make sure we all understand and embrace: playoff experience for this team, in its current stage and form, is an undeniable gift. To be able to keep making plays and keep pushing through adversity when things aren’t going that great, it says a lot about our offense.

Washington’s first points came when Preston Smith brought down Aaron Rodgers for a safety on the Packers’ second drive.

The Packers had one first down in their first four series, which included 11 yards in 13 plays.

Packers have been plagued by injuries all season, which is something fans said worries them going into Arizona next week. In the other NFC game next weekend, the No. 1 seed Carolina Panthers will host the wild-card Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Washington had won four games in a row, but its season ends without a single victory over a team that finished with a winning record. Jordan Reed was the biggest threat in the air for Washington with 9 catches for 120 yards.

A 21-yard pass from Cousins to Pierre Garcon down the middle of the field jump-started the possession, then five plays later, Cousins connected with Reed for a 17-yard gain. Fellow back James Starks (three carries for three yards at that point) then swept right with blockers in front of him and scored untouched.

Jackson’s error proved to be the turning point in the game, as the Packers held Cousins and the offense to just a field goal on that drive. The Packers’ quarterback showed that with the proper support from his offensive teammates and coaches, he’s still got the swagger, the resourcefulness, the arm and the accuracy to dominate a game. But upon review, Jackson never landed a foot in play with the ball outside the end zone and Washington had it first and goal at the one.

It was soon 11-0 after Jordan Reed’s 24-yard pass from Kirk Cousins provided a touchdown, but the Packers fought back to get themselves into the contest.
