Washington State upsets Oregon 45-38 in 2 OTs
Freeman ran for 135 yards and a touchdown against Washington State in the first half alone.
Instead, quarterback Jeff Lockie threw his first interception of the game. Four seasons ago in Eugene in the season-opener for both teams, Jeremiah Masoli came off the bench and led the Ducks to a 44-10 win.
Looking back at Washington State, what were the things that stood out? At the halfway point of the season, the Oregon Ducks sit at a paltry 3-3. After multiple stalled series, the Ducks finally looked to be on a promising drive.
The potential for trickery means Oregon’s defenders will need to be especially sound in their assignments, Helfrich said.
And lest I not single out Wicks, just know that he was awesome too: 64 yards on 7 carries.
Washington State quarterback Luke Falk (4) looks to throw the… In addition to dysentery referenced in WSU’s tweet, players could also die from drowning, gunshot wounds, snakebites, typhoid, cholera, exhaustion, and measles.
After little success from Lockie, he managed to respond. Defensively, the Oregon Ducks yield 287.2 yards in passing and 154.2 yards in rushing. “I’ve been with the defense, on and off. It’s just one of those things where I was back there this week”. Though this seemed to be a game-ending mistake for the Cougar offense, the game was not over. It went straight to teammate Robert Lewis, who ran it in for the touchdown. The Cougars took advantage of the stalled drive, marching down the field for a field goal.
Freeman’s first rushing touchdown of the day made it 17-7, but WSU got within three on a touchdown just before halftime, then went ahead 21-17 early in the third quarter.
Oregon went with three runs in each possession and had to punt both times.
Who will start at Washington? Two plays later, Falk scored on the keeper.
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Washington’s last 6 games when playing at home against Oregon.
Just as he did against Rutgers, Falk led his team on a last minute touchdown drive to spark a thrilling 45-38 double overtime win at Oregon.
It’s time for the Oregon coaching staff to quit with the mind games. That’s sent Oregon’s passing attack into a plunge, as backups Jeff Lockie and Taylor Alie struggled to stretch the field.
Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich is a big fan of Alie as well. The other aspect of coaching that stood out in the negative way is the play calling of Scott Frost.
While not a great performance by this group, they did a very good job of not allowing the terrific athletes from USC to make big plays in the return game. I want to give this team my 100 percent because they’re giving me this opportunity to come in and compete, and play for the Ducks.
The next three games are against the undefeated (but one-dimensional) Carolina Panthers at home, then on the road to the utterly dysfunctional San Francisco 49ers and to Dallas for a game against the Cowboys, who are missing starting QB Tony Romo and star receiver Dez Bryant due to injuries.
