Wasim Akram fired upon by two gunmen in Karachi, escapes unhurt
Former Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram came under gunmen attack in Karachi, ARY News reported.
Denying receiving any threat, Akram said he was on his way to the National Stadium, where he is conducting a training camp for fast bowlers.
“The bullet hit my car’s tyres but I remained safe”.
In a statement to the police, Akram said that when he introduced himself to the man, the latter fired at his vehicle.
“A auto had hit my vehicle and when we asked him to pull over, he stepped out and opened fire”.
Wasim Akram’s vehicle was attacked by unknown assailants in Karachi on Wednesday. “He did not get hit”, Arsalan Haider, Akram’s manager told ESPNCricinfo. According to preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be a case of road rage. He added he has already given the car’s registration number to the police.
Geo.tv note that Deputy Inspector-General East, Munir Sheikh, has retrieved CCTV footage of the incident to be examined.
“However it does not seem to be an incident of the road robbery or a targeted attempt”, he said.
Akram is acknowledged as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
He told he was heading to the National Stadium to take part in the camp set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The former Pakistan captain took 414 Test wickets and 502 more dismissals in one-day global matches in his distinguished career.
