Waste Management to collect Christmas trees
By combining forces with the Charlottesville Curb Side Pick-up Program, more than 4,900 trees were collected a year ago, which generated about 235 cubic yards of mulch.
The Farmington resident began recycling trees before her family moved to the area from MI three years ago.
“They will buy a wreath or maybe some roping or branches that they can use to get that smell of a real Christmas tree”, she said. “We’re asking that everyone make their festivities a little greener by doing their part”.
In Howard County: Beginning Saturday, December 26 and continuing through Friday, January 15, holiday trees may be recycled seven days a week, 7:30 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.at various drop-off sites. Please remove ornaments, tinsel and other decorations and put the tree(s) and greenery where your trash and recycling are collected.
“Each year we drive to a tree farm and cut a fresh tree”, said Jenna Carroll.
Since 2001, more than 300,000 trees have been recycled throughout Nevada thanks to the help of Christmas Tree Recycling programs, thousands of volunteers along with community sponsors. “Not only can they donate a tree, but they can come back and hike on it”. Organizations have recently accepted tree donations, putting use to good trees that would often otherwise end up on the curb and in a landfill. Tree chips retained by the Town will be used in parks as mulch for trails in woodlands, shrub beds, and soil stabilization.
Some homeowner’s associations have green waste services provided by the curbside pickup company that include Christmas trees. If residents are dropping off any of these items mentioned above, they will need to take a recent water bill and an I.D. matching the name on the bill. Fireproofed or artificial trees should never be placed in recycling containers, but this year flocking is acceptable.
Residents of Taylor can hold onto their Christmas trees into February if they so desire, as trees will be picked up on Mondays in January and February. (Monett) Free bag of mulch available equivalent to size of tree brought in.
Irving residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of fresh-cut Christmas trees for recycling during the city’s annual Christmas Tree Roundup.
