Watch 360 degree video on the Apple TV with Littlstar
Littlstar is a one-stop destination for 360-degree videos, the app was launched back in 2014 aided by funding from Disney’s accelerator program.
While users don’t have the advantage of being able to move their head around to view the 360-degree video content like they can with a headset on, the Apple TV’s Siri Remote is a natural alternative.
“Littlstar’s app for Apple TV brings an immersive 360 video experience to the television screen”, says Littlestar founder and chief product officer Tony Mugavero.
Littlstar’s launch on Apple TV will give users access to a wide range of 360 degree video content from well-known brands including Showtime, Disney, Discovery, Fusion, PBS, Mountain Dew, National Geographic and Red Bull. Unlike YouTube, Littlstar exclusively publishes 360-degree videos, and while it doesn’t have the breadth of content you’d find on Google’s streaming giant, there’s still a wealth of clips from the likes of National Geographic and Wall Street Journal. Compared to clicking and dragging on a PC, this should be relatively intuitive.
Today, Littlstar VR released the first 360-degree video app for the latest version of the Apple TV.
Lastly, with the expectancy of the app on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Sony PlayStation VR by 2016, users can now experiment with Littlestar on the web or through their Android devices for free.
Apple TV is promoting apps rather than channels as the future of TV and is using a new operating system called tvOS that offers innovative ways to connect screen and search for content. Apple has also made third party controllers available to use through the service in an effort to push its gaming credentials too. The remote’s trackpad lets users smoothly pan around in any direction they like with just the tip of their finger.
