Watch a Lexus RC F Get a Heartbeat with Electroluminescent Paint
The car’s body panels are covered in electroluminescent paint developed by the U.S.-based specialist Lumilor.
As Mashable reports, Lexus has tricked out one of its RC F coupes with biometric technology, in what it calls a world-first.
It is the result of a new concept project by Lexus Australia and Tricky Jigsaw, M&C Saatchi Australia’s creative tech division.
When glowing, the paintwork of the RC F looks not dissimilar to that of the glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf we featured earlier this year.
Ben Cooper, innovation director at M&C Saatchi, said: “We’re changing the conversation from top speeds, to talking about what the vehicle does to you emotionally”. Now Lexus has made automotive sentience even easier to imagine, by equipping a custom RC-F coupe with a human heartbeat.
Lexus bills this vehicle as part of “Heart Racing”, and gives a debut date as July 24.
The six-month build started at a closed-off track in southern New South Wales.
“We noticed firsthand that whenever you sat within the passenger seat with a skilled driver taking you across the monitor, your coronary heart goes by means of the roof when he takes that nook”. The paint then lights up with the same frequency as the driver’s heartbeat. In the concept auto, the electrical signals from the driver’s heart is transmitted to a custom-built Arduino control board, which then prompts the car’s special electro-luminescent paint to pulsate in one of several pre-set patterns, similar to LED lights.
For the time being, Lexus is just showing off this fantastic feature, and it has no plans to market it in all RC-F coupes it is manufacturing.it would probably not be a good idea to market this feature too, as it could cause distraction to other people while driving.
