Watch Amy Schumer Talk Body Image Issues on ‘Today’
Amy Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele attend Tribeca Talks: After the Movie: Inside Amy Schumer during the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
She added that her insecurities used to be so bad that “sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, ‘I’m not gonna go do standup tonight'”.
Much of the first half involves jokes about her weight and appearance, which don’t register as defensive, because she frames them as someone else’s perception of her. “You’re here for the girl getting gastric bypass?” a Los Angeles casting agent asks.

“It’s been a struggle for me my whole life”, the 34-year-old told Maria Shriver on “Today”, “and especially just being in the entertainment industry standing on a stage in front of people”.
Schumer credits “Trainwreck” stylist Leesa Evans for helping her realize clothes need not be something to hide in.
“My sister and I, we both have always dressed badly”.
Schumer isn’t backing down from big projects anytime soon and I’m looking forward to her new stand-up special Live at the Apollo.
It’s been a long road for Schumer, but she says, “The skin I am in right now I am going to embrace and love”. She will take on her usual topics of sex and women in Hollywood and I’m sure will take on a few new material.
“It’s an emotional thing”, she told host Maria Shriver in an on-camera interview Friday morning.
“Amy’s real. She just is”.
In fact, Schumer herself is now on a mission to help other women feel good about themselves, by promoting realistic standards and hosting a style empowerment workshop with the Goodwill of Southern California to “educate, inspire and transform women through fashion”. I feel like I kind of went underground, like I was doing a story on Hollywood. So to see the person I care the most about be given those tools was really moving for me.
