Last year, Amazon received no Primetime Emmy nominations, but its expected to be a strong contender this year with creator Jill Soloway’s series “Transparent”, which won Golden Globe Awards for Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy (Jeffrey Tambor) back in January.

In defence against this angelic viewership, we’d like to come out and say that the people we saw in the show felt very real to those we’ve known and those we’ve encountered, from all walks – in ways both whimsical and miserable.
Fragile egos being the rule in this town, I’m guessing there will be more tears than laughter Thursday if for no other reason, simple math. There’s still a limited number of slots and an exceptional group of shows. In both situations, it’s a question of whether or not an actor will finally receive an Emmy for a show that’s no longer on air. Last month, USA TODAY Television Critic Robert Bianco noted other shows that might get nods: Masters of Sex, The Americans, The Good Wife, Justified, Better Call Saul and How to Get Away With Murder. Inertia and the Emmys go hand in hand. Breaking Bad, which signed off in 2013, was named best drama a year ago. This year, though, the Television Academy decided that it’s not a comedy after all, but a drama, even though Netflix petitioned to keep it positioned with alongside the likes of “Modern Family” and “The Big Bang Theory”.
