Watch Bar Fight Arrest Video of TCU Quarterback Trevone Boykin
Boykin was charged with felony assault of a police officer stemming from a bar fight.
Trevone Boykin’s brilliant college career has come to an abrupt and inglorious end even though Texas Christian has one game left to play this season. TCU football coach Gary Patterson has suspended Boykin for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl game against Oregon. The Horned Frogs (10-2, 7-2 Big 12) are making their second straight appearance in a bowl game and 31st all time.
Earlier this season, the Ducks unveiled a special “Oregon Pioneer” uniform when the team faced Washington State, and also sported custom gear for the Civil War game against Oregon State, among their 12 different regular season looks.
Boykin ‘s loss has affected the line. But Boykin’s suspension is demoralizing for the Horned Frogs, given the slew of injuries they’ve faced all season and the fact their star receiver Josh Doctson was also ruled out. TCU was originally favored at -1, but now No. 15-ranked OR is at -6.5 and the over-under has dropped from 78.5 to 74.5.
Doctson had 1,300-plus yards, almost 80 receptions, and 14 touchdowns in 2015 to easily make him one of the biggest receiving threats in the game.
“‘Bram’ lost his dad that Saturday that we played Oklahoma”, Patterson says. “They have enough talent that a lot of people can play quarterback and make that thing go”. With a month since the Horned Frogs last played, Boykin is at his healthiest he’s been in a while. Freeman has had at least 20 carries in those seven games, so if OR feeds him the ball, he should be able to hit the over. I truly let down my family, teammates and the TCU and Fort Worth communities who have supported me so much.
“We watched the Oklahoma film, too, of an outstanding team they had beat multiple times”, Helfrich said.
Lubick, in his third season as Oregon’s wide receivers coach, will not be auditioning for the offensive coordinator position. Boykin is one of the best athletes in all of college football, so his absence will be detrimental to TCU’s passing and rushing attacks.
All TCU did was outscore OR 17-0 in the third quarter, turning a one-sided affair into a dicey situation for the Ducks. If they have the offense rolling, as usual, not TCU or any other team in the country is going to keep up.
The Oregon offense had 345 yards in the first half.
