WATCH FULL VIDEO: Florida State Gears Up For Showdown With Miami
No one will argue that.
“We all work together and we all push each other”, Vickers said of his opportunity.
Last season, Miami jumped out to a 16-0 lead on Florida State at home before Jameis Winston and the Seminoles had another one of their trademark comebacks in a 30-26 victory.
What do you make of the Seminoles this year?
As in, five straight Florida State wins against Miami – a streak that coincided with Fisher’s first year as head coach. “They have a good line in front of them and have all the qualities great backs have”.
And come Saturday, the Seminoles will be playing with a statement to make and point to prove. It’s dropped two straight in Tallahassee. They can run on special teams.
“They’re both athletic, strong, fast”, Fisher said.
“(The Wake Forest game) was really a game that challenged us to get that mindset coach Fisher was talking about – that killer mindset.
A win over Florida State could help. “It’ll be a day by day thing and we’ll see how it goes”.
“While I am aware that this will require additional TPD overtime, I believe it is well worth the expense in order to show we are an efficient and effective city in dealing with large scale events. But we’re not content at all”.
#4 Dalvin Cook with a 94yard carry!
Cook, who pulled his hamstring at the end of an 8-yard pass reception, won’t do anything in the first two practices of the week. Despite an offensive struggle, the ‘Noles left the BB&T field with a win after a last-minute defensive effort by defensive back Tyler Hunter who intercepted the ball in the FSU end zone with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter.
Fisher, however, doesn’t seem too concerned – despite the fact if Cook doesn’t play, the Seminoles will have to go with a freshman (Jacques Patrick) and sophomore (Johnathan Vickers) at running back. With an 8pm start time fans will not be staying long after the game, and will therefore all be leaving at the same time. Vickers did get the bulk of the carries last week when Cook left, rushing for 33 yards on 10 carries and scoring a crucial second quarter touchdown to extend Florida State’s early lead.
“I feel as good about our lineup as I have since Game 1”.
“They know the Miami rivalry”, Fisher said about his team. Cook is questionable for this week’s game against Wake Forest. And Patrick did well when he was in there. Miami will be looking for its first win in Tallahassee since 2009. I remember that night. “We know Florida State will be fired up”. It gave people hope for the future.
His top backup, Mario Pender, has a collapsed lung and remains in a hospital.
“We’ll be fine”, Fisher said on Monday during a news conference. And while Fisher praised third-team back Jonathan Vickers for his play against the Deacons, it was his first action of the season.
-WR Kermit Whitfield – Here’s a stat that’ll blow Florida State fans’ minds: Whitfield scored last week for the first time since the 2013 BCS National Championship Game against Auburn.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the Seminoles’ confidence in their running game. “The Hurricanes do not get sacked frequently and have enough downfield weapons to beat FSU vertically, meaning there’s an extra emphasis on getting to Kaaya with four defenders this week”.
Miami-Florida State is all about bragging rights and it’s something that Miami hasn’t been able to accomplish in six seasons. You’ve got to do everything right, be prepared. Don’t get caught up in wanting to win. I think our guys that played in that game a year ago have to lead now. It wasn’t as drastic or as bad as we think. “And just keep playing”. He is 0-4 against FSU, and his team has come off a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats.
