Watch GBBO victor Nadiya Hussain’s adorable reunion with the teacher that
This year’s ‘Great British Bake Off” victor Nadiya Hussain got the surprise of her life on Tuesday’s “This Morning’, when she was reunited with her old Home Economics teacher. “Here she is, Mrs Marshall!”
Before bringing out the mystery guest, the hosts were asking the star how she became the champion baker she is today. ‘But when I started doing food studies at GCSE, I was like “Oh my goodness, this is what an oven is for – not just storage”.
“As a process, I just got hooked”.
She revealed that she would watch Mrs Marshall prepare lessons and help out during her lunch breaks.
With that, Phillip and Holly finally made a decision to bring out the legendary Mrs Marshall. “It was you that planted the seed in my head to bake”.
After an emotional embrace Mrs Marshall, who was Hussain’s teacher at the school in Luton where she grew up, said: “It’s absolutely unbelievable”. The only time I ever baked was with Mrs Marshall. “I wonder if she has been watching Bake Off, because she was definitely the person who inspired me”.
A shocked Nadiya hugged her former teacher who told her she was “proud” of her “amazing” success on “Bake Off”.
I am so proud, and delighted, and thrilled. “I can do it. I can do anything that I set my mind to”‘.
The 30-year-old cook from Leeds and her husband Abdal had to tell their three young children, all aged under 10, not to spill the beans on their mother’s victory on the BBC One TV show until it aired and she’s anxious that they will continue to be economical with the truth. I’m never going to say “I don’t think I can”.
Hear how Nadiya had to go to great lengths to keep her win a secret, after the show was filmed in June, and how she’s now having to teach her children that lying isn’t something they should really do, despite telling them for the last few months to not mention mummy’s win! “So what we did, we wrapped the trophy in newspapers and did the Russian Doll thing with suitcases! So it was inside five suitcases under my bed so that nobody saw it!” So we’re kind of working on that one now’.
She went on to say: “And when she came into the final today she was nervous but she had the sort of look that “I’m going to do it” and she did”.
