Watch Keith Urban Honor Glenn Frey With ‘Take It Easy’
The event was scheduled by local officials after learning about the death of singer and Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey.
The Eagles’ sound would successfully blend rock and country and saw them win Grammys in the rock, pop an country categories from 1975 through 2008.
“Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia”.
NEW YORK (AP) – Don Felder had still not given up on speaking again to Glenn Frey.
“I have many wonderful memories of those years and the many miles I travelled with Glenn, filled with laughter, song, parties, hugs and brotherly bonds”. Guitarist Don Felder was added in 1974 but was sacked in 2001 amid disputes over money.
The statement was followed by the lyrics of the band’s song It’s Your World Now, which Frey wrote with Jack Tempchin and has the lyric “It’s your world now”.
Going solo, Frey released three albums and had 13 hit singles, including The Heat Is On, which featured in Eddie Murphy’s movie Beverly Hills Cop. For a time the four backed Linda Ronstadt, and other musicians they came to know were Jackson Browne, who wrote most of Take it Easy, and J.D. Souther, who collaborated on New Kid in Town and other songs. He even guest-starred in Miami Vice and had a string of film and TV appearances including a minor role in Tom Cruise’s Jerry Maguire.
“Hotel California” was their creative peak, the title song a long and intricate rocker that captured the decadence of mid-’70s Los Angeles as unforgettably as “Take it Easy” stood for a more laid-back time.
Frey’s legendary temper and stubbornness eventually led to a 14-year falling out with Henley and when they reunited in 1994, the intervening years may have made both men wiser but it didn’t tiresome their principles in the slightest.
The last Eagles show in Detroit occurred on July 24, 2015 on their “History of the Eagles tour”.
“Glenn, I think took three days in the studio on the word “city” at the beginning of Lyin” Eyes,” the guitarist Don Felder, who joined the band in the mid-1970s, said in an interview on the website ultimateclassicrock.com.
Souther said there are always younger artists that will try to emulate Frey’s voice and songwriting, but he was a unique and gifted individual.
Henley released his own statement following the news of Frey’s death, calling him “the spark plug” to the Eagles and “the man with a plan” and “funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven”.
Call it being in the right time at the right place; Pringle said the Eagles hit the rock scene at a time when music was incredibly important, not just popular. “You did what you set out to do, and then some”.
