[WATCH] NZ bride’s joy at viral wedding haka
Newlyweds Aaliyah and Benjamin Armstrong watched in awe as Ben’s best man and brother launched into the epic performance – before the pair eventually both joined in themselves.
The bride was brought to tears by the haka.
“I wasn’t planning on jumping in until one bridesmaid did”, she said.
In the video, the couple stand and watch as the traditional dance begins.
A video has emerged from New Zealand of a couple getting married, when a surprise haka breaks out.
Women do not normally perform the haka in Maori culture, but she said they can do at weddings.
She clarified that the dance was meant to honour and show respect for the couple and not to intimidate her husband according to feedback from some viewers on the internet.
The haka was organised by the 23-year-old groom’s best man and was led by his older brother.
The video was beautifully captured by the bride’s cousin’s production company.
Most of us are used to seeing the haka, the traditional Māori dance, performed before rugby matches by the New Zealand All Blacks.
Comments on social media have focused on the strong emotions that the video arouses.
