Watch President Obama’s farewell speech live tonight in VR
The country will now be watching the Republicans and Trump to find out what will be left of it once it is repealed. The country will find out Tuesday evening if President Obama’s final words to the nation reflect these unifying sentiments rather than those expressed in his fund raising email. President Obama’s farewell address is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. People who are not planning to listen to his speech in person can watch it live on ABC7.
Obama said the Farewell Address dates back to when George Washington was president, and is a tradition for American leaders. “Maybe he gives lip service to it, but by and large, he’s been a president, I think it’s safe to say, who has helped pull the country apart to some degree”, said Jeff Anderson, a senior fellow at the conservative Hudson Institute.
Most farewell addresses are forgettable.
“The running thread through my career has been the notion that when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together in collective effort, things change for the better”, Obama said in a Saturday radio address previewing the speech on Tuesday in Chicago.
All this liberal talk about the press heroically holding presidents accountable is easily undermined by Sunday’s edition of The Washington Post Magazine. The former general warned of that the new “conjunction of an vast military establishment and a large arms industry” – which he dubbed “the military-industrial complex” – could pose grave dangers to American liberties and USA democracy.
Instead, Obama will appeal to citizens to embrace tolerance, drawing an unspoken contrast with the president-elect, who has called for walling off the USA border with Mexico and ending the admission of refugees from war-torn Muslim countries. Obama’s speech is meant to be a rallying cry for despondent Democrats.
Mr Obama’s cross-country trek would be a trip down memory lane, were it not right in the middle of a tumultuous presidential handover. Plus, he’s temperamentally an optimist, and frequently argues that the “arc of history” may be long but it “bends toward justice”.
Top advisers say to expect to hear less about his accomplishments than his hopes for the future.
Air Force One lands with U.S. President Barack Obama and his family at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Jan. 2, 2017.
CBS meanwhile will pre-empt “Bull”, the popular freshman series starring Michael Weatherly, for Obama’s address.
“I’m just beginning to write my remarks”. “Primus admits sadly that “.now we’re not going to be able to go see it”. Each celebrity brought up a different theme in their moment, which was then followed by similar stories from other regular Americans.
It is believed Obama chose to give the speech in Chicago rather than Washington because back in 2008, he delivered his victory speech after becoming the nation’s first black president. Both pointedly argued for the importance of inclusion and diversity, in a way that seemed pointedly aimed at Trump.
