Watch Stephen Colbert Go Full Hunger Games at the Republican National Convention
The list of people set to speak at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland has finally been released, ranging from Donald Trump’s staffers to his family members to some political supporters.
It all happened on The Late Show Monday night, when Colbert-as-regular-Colbert got overwhelmed by the Republican National Convention and chose to seek help from former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who’s been living in obscurity.
“It is my honor to begin the official Republican National Convention Hungry for Power Games”, the comedian proclaimed while banging down his oversize gavel.
Stephen Colbert is in town and has taken advantage of turning the RNC into his punch-line punching bag.
The stunt was part of a segment for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but if the security guard ushering the smurfy host off the stage is any indication, it was far from okayed beforehand.
Colbert dressed as Caesar Flickerman and gatecrashed the RNC.
“If you can feel the wall, you don’t have to see the wall”, he said of Trumpiness, adding that what the presumptive Republican nominee’s followers want is “a leader to feel things that feel feels”, calling him “an emotional megaphone”. “But neither does Donald Trump”.
But perhaps the biggest news of all was that Stephen Colbert, hosting a live RNC special on CBS, brought his character “Stephen Colbert” back from the dead.
Monday’s show also featured a return of Colbert’s arch-conservative “Colbert Report” persona – and his famous Bill O’Reilly parody segment, called “The Word”. When Late Show Colbert told the two that Trump had secured the nomination, however, the two agreed something must be done.
