Watch the Oxford Union’s Mash-Up Invitation to Taylor Swift
“Union president Charles Vaughan is determined to lure Swift – an global cultural icon” – to Oxford’s debating chamber.
The Oxford Union on Wednesday uploaded a video of its most famous recent guest speakers edited into a rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off”.
These include human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter, biologist Richard Dawkins, journalist Piers Morgan and a sprinkling of celebrities from Psy and Diane Kruger to honorary members of Swift’s “Squad” Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart.
“It’s incredible when you take some famous people who are known for being celebrities – they have unbelievable things to say despite the fact that they’re better known not for their academic content”, Vaughan continued.

The makers soon realized that it deserved to be used for a higher objective. After setting nearly all music charts soaring this year, Taylor Swift’s “Shake if Off” has found a new string of takers and we love every inch of it.
“She’s a wonderful person to listen to”, he explained.
“Whenever we have a speaker we try to work with them to make sure we talk about an issue which is close to their hearts”.
The union, which was founded as a forum for discussion and debate in 1823, has previously hosted singer Michael Jackson. One of its presidents was W.E. Gladstone who later became prime minister.
