Watch Tim Peake’s first press conference from space LIVE
Seemingly upright in the Columbus science module of the International Space Station – until asked to do a back flip while crossing the surface of the globe at 27,000 kilometers an hour – Peake faced the challenge of the media.
ISS Expedition 46 Commander Scott Kelly and Flight Engineer Tim Kopra of NASA will conduct the spacewalk. So really, what more could you ask from your first couple of days in space? Tim Peake and two other astronauts – Timothy Kopra of the United States and Yuri Malenchenko of Russian Federation – blast off from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. We have got special shampoo called no rinse shampoo so we can wash our hair without having to rinse it out with water.
Not only did he show pretty much zero fear in the build-up to Tuesday’s launch, but now he’s tweeting from space as if it’s the most everyday thing in the world.
Scott Kelly, a fellow ISS resident also uploaded a picture of what their space theatre looks like; with a tweet saying: #Movie night in micro #Gravity aboard #ISS on our new HD projector which we use for conferences, tech software, etc.
“The pips were sent up on a supply rocket, Orbital 4 on December 6, after being handed over to Jeremy Curtis from the UK Space Agency previous year”, explains National Trust Custodian for Woolsthorpe Manor, Jannette Warrener.
“The spacecraft and its environmental testing are complete, and now the launch team is moving to California to perform final preparations for a March launch”, said Stu Spath, InSight program manager at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, in a statement.
The crew has been kept in quarantine for a couple of weeks prior to the launch so that they don’t fall sick in space. “We join with his friends and family in wishing him a productive mission and a safe return to Earth”.
He said Peake’s voyage “has already inspired schoolchildren, and will go on to do so”.
“To Europe and the United Kingdom, I hope you loved the present”.
The Queen and Sir Elton John sent a message to support Peake and said good luck.
“That way”, Peake told students during a question-and-answer session last month, “I can spend as long as I like drinking my tea and it won’t get stewed, and hopefully it won’t get cold either”.
