WatchOS 2 First Look: New Software, Same Apple Watch

The download is displayed on the WatchOS 2 Software Update page. When the watchOS 2 bug was discovered, Apple issued a statement saying the OS would suffer a short delay, but it didn’t go into detail as to what the issue was.

On the company’s website, Apple featured some of the most important highlights of the watchOS 2. The new operating system will come with a Nightstand mode, but that’s not the only feature that should entice you to get the update.

After all those steps have been taken, the update can be downloaded by selecting Software Update from the general menu.

Demand is expected to be high, so there may be a delay.

The next-generation software is now available for all models of the Watch but paired phones need to be updated to iOS 9 before the Watch update can take place.

In order to carry out the upgrade your Apple Watch will need to be connected to its charger and have at least 50% charge.

WatchOS 2 offers plenty of features for end users to get excited about, but developers should be taking a long, hard look at the new OS, too. The Apple Watch will be able to run more apps on its own, and it will feel less like just an additional screen for your iPhone and more like the mobile computer it’s meant to be.

When on the device’s home screen, Watch-wearers are able to use the Digital Crown to scroll back and forth through time, allowing them to see past and future appointments, in addition to information such as weather predictions. When resting, the digital crown as well aside button can be used to snooze and pushed the alarm off. The entry-level Apple Watch Sport smartwatch recently gained two more colours – gold and rose-gold, on top of the black and silver models. That’s not all though, as developers can also make use of the suite of on-board sensors and hardware to make actions like sending voice notes via WhatsApp from the Apple Watch a reality (if WhatsApp decides to support the function, anway). They especially liked that more color options were included on old watch faces such as Utility and Modular, and likewise on the watch-to-watch communications service, Digital Touch.
